• emma stone on zack and codyBritish Glass is organising a one-day seminar on funding for decarbonisation and energy efficiency work on Thursday 2 November (north of England, venue TBC) – which will be attended by British Glass members’ and non-members. The UK glass industry is pursuing an active programme on energy efficiency and decarbonisation. But building the business case to secure funds remains a barrier. Capital costs can be very high and paybacks periods are often in excess of two years; traditional loans are usually unattractive for this work. The black-tie awards ceremony was held on 15 June at the Royal Armouries in Leeds, at the centre of the country’s great east-west glass manufacturing corridor – where nine out of ten of the UK’s largest glass manufacturers have production sites. The new architecture also means the pages on the content rich site now load in milliseconds, ensuring that potential customers visiting the site are engaged for long enough to register their interest. To complete the stylish extension, a number of the property’s existing hardwood windows have also been sympathetically replaced. Tasked with identifying a system that could match the visual appeal of the original wooden frames whilst offering improved quality, usability and security, the Dortech team took the innovative step of suggesting a change to aluminium. After reviewing alternative products on the market, Senior’s high quality PURe® aluminium windows were found to significantly outperform cheaper aluminium systems and offer the perfect solution in terms of both performance and aesthetics. When the UK government launched its Decarbonisation and energy efficiency roadmap 2050 project – working with the UK’s eight most energy intensive manufacturing industries, including glass – British Glass saw an opportunity to develop a new type of relationship with policy makers. Awarded a UK patent, Senior’s PURe® range of energy-efficient aluminium windows and doors is the first on the UK market to benefit from an enhanced thermal barrier manufactured from expanded polyurethane foam (PUR). Traditionally used in cladding and insulation products, the innovative use of PUR as a thermal barrier in windows and doors gives the PURe ® range the potential to achieve U-values as low as 0.71W/m2 K when calculated as a commercial CEN standard window and 0.93W/m2 K when calculated as a CEN standard door.
